We have visited Rome, Paris, London, Prague, Vienna, and now Budapest and I have to say that Detti is the best tour guide we ever had. Working with Anita was a breeze. She patiently answered all my questions regarding times, prices, pick up location, etc.. When we couldn't make the original time on Friday due to delays in our travel, Anita immediately booked and confirmed us the next morning with Detti without any problem. And Detti promptly showed up at our hotel 10 minutes early. We were a group of four with my wife and two teenager sons and we all had a wonderful time with Detti and enjoyed her company very much. She was very knowledgeable and made the tour enjoyable and yet informative with her own unique ways. Detti was very gracious in answering any questions we had - from train tickets, restaurants, money exchange - and patiently taking our pictures, etc.. The entire tour exceeded our expectations. Definitely would recommend Budapest Locals to all our friends and families.

They were very accommodating focusing on the sites we wanted to spend more time on, extremely knowledgeable about their city and its history, and very personable. The tour was well paced, informative, and we saw all the highlights of Budapest in a day. We also enjoyed wonderful food. Budapest locals is a well-run company. They were responsive in corresponding with me, answering my questions and setting everything up. While in Budapest, even after the tour, they were available to us for questions and available for general help. They are not only tour guides but really great ambassadors for their city. This gave us a great overview of what we needed to do and see in the coming days of out trip. I believe that this tour made our stay in Budapest so much better! After spending the afternoon with Barbi, we were well positioned to navigate the city and returned to the Central Market to spend a fun afternoon on our own (and spend some money on spices to bring home!) (Eredeti) We visited Budapest while on an Amawaterways river cruise in August 2018 and extended our visit after disembarking. Our full day tour with Barbi was the highlight of our visit to Budapest. We were a party of 6 adults--friends and relatives. It was such a wonderful experience to not only see some of the more visited spots, but to also visit the lesser known and get an insider's perspective. Barbi fed us all day. She took us to a ruin bar and purchased cheeses, meats, breads and spreads--a feast in itself. After walking all morning, we stopped for lunch, goulash, of course, but not any goulash you've had in the U.S. It was delicious and quite filling. More sightseeing in the afternoon as well as a stop for strudel, not just a taste either. We must have had 2 or 3 strudels and coffee each. Before our trip I had done research to understand a little about what we might see, but to just see something and to experience it through the eyes of a local are two different things. I cannot say enough about the friendly and knowledgeable care we received from Barbi as our guide and Anita as our contact in the office. We were not ready to say goodbye at the end of the day so invited Barbi to have a drink with us--on us this time. Everyone agreed that Budapest is a city we would all love to return to some day, and we will keep our fingers crossed that Budapest Locals will still be there for us to call on again.

Not only was the food amazing but walking around Budapest, with our guide, taught us so much about its history and culture. We couldn’t finish all the food so our guide carefully packed it away for us and we had a picnic dinner at our hotel! I highly recommend this tour, it is well worth the cost.

(Eredeti) In March of 2017 I contacted Budapest Locals through Trip Advisor to arrange a tour of Budapest. Not being a seasoned traveller there was plenty of sites offering guided tours I decided to contact Budapest Locals because of their promise to respond in 24 hours. Considering the nine hour time difference I was very impressed when I received a response from Anita the following day. Through a number of emails I booked the Insider's Budapest with their tour group for July. On the day of our tour at the agreed upon time we met Barbara (Barbi) as our guide for the day. Barbi was an extremely pleasant and knowledgeable guide being able to not only answer all of our questions but have additional information as well. She gave us assistance in how to purchase tickets and use the transportation system. Offering suggestions to us for things to do and see on the remaining days of our stay in Budapest and even when my son started to run out of energy from jet lag she still was helpful. The tour was for the complete day however having a great guide made the day go by very quickly. I was so pleased at the service I received in 2017 I contacted Anita again this January for another tour. Anita was working on a modified or specific tour suggestion for us until Covid19 put an end to our travel plans. However if and when things get back to normal and we are able to travel again I will for sure be contacting them again. What I am also very grateful for was how Anita went above and beyond of just being a local tour group. With the assistance of her I was able to track down long lost relatives and this I am very grateful.

(Eredeti) Our guide, Annie, picked us up a the hotel at 9:30 am and we explored the top sites of Budapest until 5:30 pm. We covered a lot of ground because we did not have to figure out where to go. It was really great to have someone to tell us the significance of what we were seeing, and also to share the experience of life in Budapest and Hungary. I strongly recommend this organization.

The time there inbetween was filled with with good food, nice drinks, plenty of laughter and a bit of Budapest history. (Eredeti) On our first full day in Budapest we met Bridget at our hotel to begin our tour. We chose a full day tour, and she gave us history, local insight and background of many of the sights and landmarks in the city. We sampled food and drink, traveled the Metro and did a lot of walking, which was good since we consumed so many calories! We are a couple in our 60's, and she had the right of amount of rest stops planned on our walking portion of the tour. We sampled strudels, and saw one being made. We sampled a lot of different food at the Great Market. We saw both Catholic Churches and Jewish Synagogues. We ended at the Jewish Quarter and a Ruin Bar. Bridget was always checking with us to see if we wanted to see anything in particular, and was quite willing to tailor the tour to our requests. She was personable and made us feel quite comfortable with her. I highly recommend her and her group of locals. Even after our tour, Anita emailed us with recommendations for the remainder of our stay.

What a perfect way to start the trip getting an overview of the city and learning the in's and out's of public transport! (which btw is excellent, easy to use, and the best way to get around!) The mid-tour snack was so nice and I just can't say enough about the warmth and hospitality felt by the this group towards us. Would highly recommend using their services to anyone visiting!

(Eredeti) Let me start by saying thank you to the owner as well as to the wonderful guides we had a pleasure of becoming acquainted with. First things first and of course the scheduling and pre-tour logistics. Anita worked around our schedule to book the tours we wanted and to make the material not overlap (we took the 8 insider’s tour and the Jewish secrets one). Tours and guides: Insider’s Budapest tour - we have never seen an excursion that includes not only the guide’s time and the tickets but also the food along the way. On one hand, this is a small and perhaps a negligible detail, but on the contrary, it provides you with an interesting feeling of “set it and forget it” where you pay once and everything, the public transit tickets, entrance fees, food (both lunch and market tasting), desert, and alcoholic drink is included. Jewish secrets – the tour is carefully designed to handle some sensitive topics with care and the guide that we had (Anita) was quite erudite on the subject of both the Jewish history as well as Judaism. I am always worried when it comes to Jewish tours as they might be conducted in a manner of dry facts and statistics without really exposing the history, culture, and traditions of the Jewish population in a given place. Having the Jewish secrets tour was a heartwarming experience (with inevitable deep sorrow and devastation when it touched upon the events that transpired throughout the history). The tours were conducted by two separate guides, Fanni and Anni (Anita) who were amazingly knowledgeable, personable, enthusiastic and simply wonderful. You can feel they love both the city as well as showing it to other people. Walking with them around Budapest felt like spending time with old friends and them showing you around while talking about the places, the history, and the everyday life in modern Hungary. Both girls are true gems of this agency and we are really happy that they were our guides. Overall, not only would I highly recommend Budapest Locals but am sure will use them again next time we are in the city.

(Eredeti) A fantastic experience! We opted for a private tour and had a guide at our disposal for almost 5hrs. We were met at our apartment and taken for breakfast, but only after being shown the cheapest and most efficient way to travel around the city. As well as the foodie tour, we were also provided with historical information and shown around some amazing sights. So much food involved we actually couldn't eat it all, and that is saying something for us! Absolutely worth every penny and it gave us a real insight into the city.
